Few updates on pregnancy including work, diet and oils.
As we take on this new journey. I can’t help but notice the countless times I have been asked if I am planning to work after having a baby while my husband was not asked the same question. But I do understand the perspective (history) of these questions so that’s why I am not riled up about it.
The answer is yes, I am planning to work even after having a baby. All women are different and we all came from different environment and upbringing hence the views are so different for each one of us.
My mom started working again within 3-6 months after having my brother and I. Her leaving us at daycare at early age clearly did not make us love her less. We all have a very strong bond. And I am grateful to her for making us independent and strong individuals. My mom had help in form of maid services in India when she had us. She still says it made things easier because she did not have to do everything except few things and cooking.
And here in US, these services are luxury. Stay at home mom’s literally have to do everything themselves which includes cooking, feeding, laundry, ironing, grocery shopping, cleaning toilets, rooms, everything your child make a mess of and so much more. That itself is a full time job around the clock.
Now, if you are a working mom. You surely are doing a lot more but in my case I have an amazing partner who always has done his equal part if not more. He has supported me in so many ways. During the first trimester, he worked long hours at work and also at home. He made breakfast, lunch, fresh juice, cleaned home, cooked dinner, laundry, grocery shopping and everything else every day while studying for his certification. He worked around the clock and did not complain about “how everything is so hard and he works so much” He did everything happily, that’s part of his character which I admire the most.
With us, there was a never a question of whether I will or not work after having a kid. My work is part of my identity. I want be to involved at work and ensure I am using my brain to full capacity until it goes rusty. I love learning new tech things and being part of amazing teams. I personally don’t see myself giving up something I worked hard for most of my life. I love everything I do at work and outside of work. I am surely not giving up blogging either, yes it might be slow at times but it makes me happy. So whenever I will have time, I will share and post.
Few updates I want to share with you all. As I mentioned the first trimester was hard for me, so barely did anything. Since then I got better and now I have started walking at least 4 miles a day. During the first few visits with the doctor, she told me I can eat anything I want whenever I wanted. I took that literally lol and ate a lot of carbs and gained more weight than I should have. Even though, I ate home cooked food only and a lot of fruits. Extra weight can actually impact the baby’s health. My last two visit, she is consistently asked me to cut down on my carbs, focus on protein. I have now been good for almost more than 2 weeks, I do get a cheat day where I indulge on carbs. Another thing I noticed is that since I got control of my diet and started walking so much. I am so much more active and happy.
So if you are new mom to be, focus on the good food and eat carbs in moderation. Consult with your doctor about your diet plan.
Another thing I started using oil daily, I did a lot of research on preventing stretch marks during pregnancy. I found few studies that showed oil is much more beneficial than a cream. Oil goes into more deeper layer of your skin. Check with your doctor which oil is safe for you. And also, the best part is it helps with the itchiness around the stomach.
Here are the ones I am using, I rotate them throughout the week:
Dress I am wearing is sold out. But I have linked similar ones here (not a maternity dress)
Hope you enjoyed the updates.
Have a great rest of the day!!
